It looks like Android and iOS users aren’t the only ones getting a new Plants vs Zombies game. EA is now sending out invites to playtest a Plants vs Zombies shooter. According to a number of reports from our readers and the email screenshots they provided, EA’s new Plants vs Zombies shooter is codenamed “Picnic.” The closed Alpha has begun on consoles.

While there are no details available at the time, it is possible that this game is developed by the same team behind Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. The invites are sent to a select number of players.

You are invited to participate in the new PvZ shooter (codename Picnic) playtest on Xbox One or PS4. Made by the team that created PvZ Garden Warfare, the Picnic Closed Alpha will give players a first glimpse into the new game – you don’t want to miss out!

The playtest is exclusive for players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with no mention of PC anywhere. Rest assured this doesn’t mean the game won’t release on PC. Previous Plants vs Zombies games came to consoles as well as PC.

How to Sign Up for Plants vs Zombies shooter playtest

  • Players need to sign up before 11 PM PST on July 25th, and the playtest sign up is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please be aware that signing up does not guarantee participation.

The playtest is under NDA which means players aren’t allowed to record, stream, and can’t discuss playtest in public. According to the email, players can’t take screenshots, and can’t share the contents of the email sent out. But it looks like players didn’t appreciate EA’s request to not share the contents of that email.

Is This Plants vs Zombies 3?

If we understand this correctly, this isn’t Plants vs Zombies 3. EA confirmed Plants vs Zombies 3 a couple of days ago. The publisher says its pre-alpha will only be playable on Android devices.

You’ll need an Android device that is at least a Galaxy S7 or higher for specs, with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or higher in order to play. Unfortunately, the PvZ 3 Pre-Alpha is unavailable for players on iOS at this time.

To play the PvZ 3 Pre-Alpha you must be logged into the same Google Play Games account that you downloaded the Pre-Alpha on, or you will not be able to access the game.

The email sent to players doesn’t line up with EA’s blogpost. It is safe to say this shooter is separate from PvZ3. We’ll know for sure in the coming weeks.
