Unlike the original game, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX allows you to pick not only your partner Pokemon but the ones you are going to play as well. The game is not going to let you pick the same type of Pokemon. For example, you cannot pick a Charmander and Torchick as both are fire-type Pokemon.

Pick Pokemon to cover weaknesses as well. You should pick a water-type, grass-type and fire-type. If you pick Charmander, then be sure to pick a water type and a grass type to counter water.

That is all for our Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX starters guide. If you are interested in learning more about the game then you can check out our guide on how you can evolve Pokemon in the game. You can also check out our guide on how you can recruit Pokemon.
