Halo 2 Anniversary PC is facing errors like Fatal Error, stuttering, missing DLL files, crash at launch, Easy Anti-Cheat error, Executable Not Found, and more. Here I have compiled a list of errors and issues with the game along with their fixes and workarounds.
Halo 2 Anniversary Crash, Stuttering, And Fixes
Halo 2 Anniversary has launched on PC as part of the Halo The Master Cheif Collection. While it’s a good PC port but, PC players are reporting Fatal error, DLL files not found, crash at launch, stuttering, and more.
The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing with Halo 2 Anniversary along with their possible fixes and workarounds.
Fatal Error Fix
Halo 2 Anniversary players are reporting that when they launch the game they get the Fatal Error. Some players have reported that the game randomly crashes and they get UE4 fatal error.
If you are playing the game on an Nvidia GPU then disable sharpening in Nvidia Control Panel. Apparently, driver 445.75 causes issues with UE4 games. To disable sharpening, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down menu and turn off Image Sharpening. This will fix the Fatal Error. Alternatively, you can just roll back to the previous version of the GPU driver.
IF the above fix didn’t work for you and you are using Windows 7 then the issue might be the outdated OS. Download and install this update and the issue will be resolved If the error isn’t fixed then installing the update KB3080149 will fix it.
Another fix for the Halo 2 Anniversary Fatal error is disabling the remastered graphics. Either it’s a glitch or too heavy for some GPUs. Alternatively, I would recommend locking the game’s FPS if you want to play the game using remastered graphics. You can do that in Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game > Max FPS Limit. It’s a bit of trial and error to find at which FPS the game won’t crash and display the UE4 Fatal Error.
One possible reason for Max FPS Limit Options Fatal Error could be that your laptop isn’t running the game on the dedicated GPU. Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game. Under step 1, select the Non integrated GPU option. Apply the change, launch the game and the error will be fixed.
For AMD users, open Device Manager and under display adapters disable the integrated GPU option. This will also work for Nvidia GPU users.
Easy Anti-Cheat Fix
According to players, they are unable to play Halo 2 Anniversary as they get the following Easy Anti-Cheat errors.
Unknown file version (D:/Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\halo1\halo1.dll)
or
Easy Anti-Cheat: Untrusted system file (C:\Windows\System32\normaliz.dll)
To fix this error, uninstall all of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Then download and install latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable both x86 and x64. This will fix the error.
If that doesn’t fix the error, then exclude the game’s install folder from your anti-virus or disable the anti-virus. Verify game files and then launch the game. The issue will be resolved.
No Game Executable Found Fix
Some Halo 2 Anniversary players are reporting that when they launch the game they get “no game executable entry was found” error. This might be due to your anti-virus or Window Defender detecting the game’s exe as Trojan. Either disable the anti-virus or exclude the game’s install folder from the anti-virus. Verify game files, launch the game and it’ll work without any error.
Missing dll Files Fix
Many PC players have reported that when they launch the game they get an error telling them a certain .dll file is missing or not found. These errors include:
Missing CONCRT140.dll
Missing MSVCP140.dll
Missing CONCRT140.dll
Missing VCRUNTIME140.dll
api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing…
Update your OS and if that doesn’t fix the error then try uninstalling Microsoft Visual C+++ Redistributables and reinstall them, both both x86 and x64 versions. This wil fix the missing dll error.
However, some players are reporting that they get the following files as missing.
X3DAudio1_7.dll
XINPUT1_3.dll
XAPOFX1_5.dll
Just download and install the latest DirectX files and the errors will be fixed.
100% CPU Usage Fix
This is another issue that PC players are experiencing. This issue is probably being caused by some mouse/keyboard profiling software if you are using one. This causes the Easy Antii-cheat to use a lot of CPU which causes the 100% CPU usage fix. Disable any profiling or third-party software you are using and the issue will be fixed.
Crackling Audio, Audio Fix
Players are reporting crackling or buzzing sound while playing Halo 2 anniversary. You just need to make a small change in your audio settings.
For Windows 10, Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel (to the right). Right-click your action sound device > properties > advanced tab. Here select the audio range 32000Hz or lower. This will fix the crackling audio issue.
Stuttering Fix
Performance is a common issue with PC games. Halo 2 Anniversary players have reported that they are experiencing micro-stuttering with the game. This can easily be fixed. First, disable in-game V.sync. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game > set Vertical Sync to “On”. Apply the change and launch the game.
If the stuttering is still persistent then follow the steps above but set Vertical Sync to “Fast”. Launch the game, display mode should be set at Fullscreen, and not only stuttering will be fixed but, you’ll get a potential performance boost too.
