Similar to earlier titles, there are some notable differences when it comes to Sword and Shield. When we talk about differences, these include version-exclusive Pokémon, Legendaries, Gym Leaders, and more. Let’s talk about all the differences in the two versions of the game.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Differences
The first one is obvious. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield feature exclusive Pokémon that you can only catch in only one version of the title. In order to acquire the version-exclusive Pokémon in the other version, you’ll need to acquire them via trade. The table below shows the Pokémon exclusive to both the versions:
Pokémon Sword | Pokémon Shield |
Deino | Larvitar |
Zweilous | Pupitar |
Hydreigon | Tyranitar |
Jangmo-o | Goomy |
Hakamo-o | Sligoo |
Kommo-o | Goodra |
Gothita | Solosis |
Gothorita | Duosion |
Gothitelle | Reuniclus |
Rufflet | Vullaby |
Braviary | Mandibuzz |
Sirfetch’d | Galarian Ponyta |
Mawile | Sableye |
Turtonator | Drampa |
Legendary Pokémon Differences
The next difference in Sword and Shield is related to Legendaries or Legendary Pokémon – as noticeable on the title’s cover art.
Pokémon Sword | Pokémon Shield |
Zacian | Zamazenta |
Gym Leaders Differences
Apart from normal Pokémon and Legendaries, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will also feature version-exclusive Gyms and Gym Leaders. Here’s a brief rundown of these version-exclusive additions:
Pokémon Sword | Pokémon Shield |
Fighting-type Bea | Ghost-type Allister |
These are all the differences between the two versions of the game. It’s highly plausible that we’ll end up with even more differences, especially related to time differences, etc. If we come across these differences, we’ll update the piece to reflect them.
