Madden is one of EA’s long-running franchises, and Madden NFL 23 is its latest addition. The game has launched for PC and consoles, and like always, it’s the same game as the ones released prior, just with a bit of a facelift. This also means the errors and issues that PC players were experiencing with Madden 22 exist in Madden 23. Madden NFL 23 PC players are reporting in-game crashes, controllers not working issue, controller not working properly, and more. Here I have compiled a list of errors that PC players are experiencing, along with their fixes and workarounds.

Madden NFL 23 Crash, Controller Not Working, And Fixes

Madden NFL 23 launched with dismal reception from players as the game is full of issues. Not only that, issues that popped up in Madden 22 still exist in Madden 23, like the game freezing out of nowhere. Madden NFL 23 PC players report errors and issues with the game like in-game crashes, controllers not working issue, controller not working properly, and more. The following are the fixes for the errors PC players are reporting.

Controller Not Working Fix

Some Madden NFL 23 players report that either the controller isn’t working with the game or it isn’t working correctly. Both players on Origin and Steam clients are experiencing it, and here is how to make the controller work in Madden 23.

For those of you facing the issue where the controller isn’t working currently like you press the back button, and instead, it registers it as a select button. These issues could be occurring due to another peripheral attached to your PC. Make sure your controller is the only extra peripheral you are using and the controller will start working currently. For Steam users facing the same issue, you might have a special controller configuration active in Steam Controller settings. Disable the controller configuration if you have any active, using Steam Big Picture Mode, and the controller will start working in Madden 23.

If the above scenario doesn’t apply to you and still the controller isn’t working, open Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings. Check “Generic Gamepad Configuration Support” if you use a third-party controller. For the Xbox controller, select “Xbox Configuration Support” or select the PlayStation option for Dualshock 4 and Dualsense controller This will make the controller work with Madden 23.

Crash Fix

Some Madden NFL 23 players are reporting that the game is crashing in-game, and here is how to fix it. Using third-party software or drivers/software for third-party peripherals can cause the game to crash. Disable any third-party software that runs in the background or the driver/software for any third-party peripheral you are using, and the issue will be fixed.

In-game overlays like Origin in-game overlay, Steam in-game overlay, or GeForce Experience overlay can also cause Madden 23 to crash. Disable any in-game overlay you have enabled, and Madden 23 won’t crash in-game.

Game Not Starting, Crash At Launch Fix

Madden NFL 23 players are reporting that the game is crashing at launch or not starting at all, and here is how to fix it. Your anti-virus software could be blocking the game’s executable or other files and causing the issue. Either disable real-time protection or exclude the game folder from the anti-virus, I recommend the latter. After that, verify game files, launch Madden NFL 23, and it won’t crash at startup.

Missing or corrupt Visual C++ files is another cause of Madden 23 crash at launch issue. Install/repair the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables both x64 and x86 versions to fix it.
