Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers is out now and you can check it out if you have played the previous games and are a bit tired of playing FFXV. Or you can wait till next-generation consoles arrive. Speaking with PlayStation Magazine, Naoki Yoshida revealed that there are plenty of assets ready to go. When asked about plans for next-generation, his statement teased Final Fantasy XIV enhancements on the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
Whenever [I tried] to kind of get a feel for how the developers feel on [my] team and sort of casually brought up the subject […] they would reply […] ‘Yoshida-san please look at all of these graphic assets we have created so far. And have you seen the amount of […] assets we have? And do you know how quickly we pump out this content? And look at how it is so disorganised and just chaos at this point!
Yoshida did not comment about the upcoming next-generation consoles directly. He did not talk about the relationship of the game with these consoles but he did talk about upgrading visuals. He went on to mention the following and teased Final Fantasy XIV enhancements on the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett:
So at that time [I] was like ‘Oh, I understand, okay, then let’s just hold off on making a determination at this point.’ And so we kind of closed the loop at this point. But of course, we would like to revisit and consider the opportunities maybe once Shadowbringers launches and kind of settles down.
While there is no official release date for these upgrades we do know that we could expect to see a better looking Final Fantasy XIV on the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet after Shadowbringer settles down.
The PS5 and Xbox Scarlett are not going to release until the Fall of 2020 so the developers have plenty of time to sort things out. It is also worth mentioning that 343 Industries, the developer that is working on Halo Infinite already has access to Xbox Scarlett hardware.
In other news, Final Fantasy XIV recently had a very successful crossover with FFXV and director and producer, Naoki Yoshida talked about the future of the game. He talked about how he is interested in collaborating with World of Warcraft and Diablo.
