F1 2020 Crash, Stuttering, And Fixes

F1 2020 is the latest addition to the F1 franchise and probably the last entry to grace the PS4 and Xbox One. F1 2020 is a huge improvement compared to F1 2019 in terms of performance.

However, the PC version of the game is facing errors and issues like random crashes, black screen, stuttering, low FPS, Ego Dumper, and more.

The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing with the game along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

Ego Dumper Crash Fix

Players are reporting that F1 2020 crashes with Ego Dumper error. One fix for the game is to run it in Windowed mode and the game will stop crashing.

If that doesn’t work for you, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Select the game. Make the following changes.

Image Sharpening – Off
Low Latency Mode – Off
Power Management – Prefer Maximum Performance
Texture filtering – Quality – Performance
Threaded Optimization – On

Apply these changes and F1 2020 will stop crashing with Ego Dumper crash.

Crash Fix

Players are reporting that F1 2020 is crashing randomly while playing. The reason behind the crash might be DirectX 12. If you have enabled DX 12, then just switch to DirectX 11 and the game will stop crashing.

Black Screen Fix

Black Screen is another issue that players are reporting with F1 2020. One reason for the black screen issues with the game is the DirectX 12. If you are playing the game with DX12 enabled, just switch to DirectX 11 and the issue will be fixed.

Another fix for the Black screen issue is to run the game in Borderless Windowed Mode. In case these aforementioned fixes didn’t work, change your anti-aliasing setting and the black screen issue will be fixed for good.

Game Not Launching, Crash At Startup Fix

F1 2020 PC players are reporting that the game either crashes at startup or doesn’t launch at all. Here are a few things that’ll help you fix this issue.

One reason for the game to crash at launch or not launch at all is the lack of admin rights. Right-click exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “run this program as administrator”. Apply the change and the game should be working fine.

Another reason for the game to crash at launch might be your anti-virus/Windows Defender blocking the game’s exe. Either disable the anti-virus or exclude the game’s folder and F1 2020 won’t crash at launch.

Using third-party tools and monitoring software like MSI Afterburner can also cause the game to crash at launch. Disable any third-party tools you are using and the issue will be fixed.

Also, make sure you are using the latest build of Windows 10. New games often require a specific build of Win 10 to run properly. If you are using an older build of the OS, then just update the OS and the game will start working as intended.

No Audio Fix

According to F1 2020 PC players, they aren’t getting any audio if they switch to headphones. Open Settings > System > Sound > click “Sound Control Panel”. Select your active audio device > Properties > Spatial Sound tab. Select the “off” from the drop-down menu and apply the change. This should get the audio working with your headphones in F1 2020.

Also, players have reported that the radio audio doesn’t work if they switch to headphones. Go to the game’s install folder and open “hardware_settings_config.xml” in notepad. Look for the following line.

useXAudio2

If it’s set to False, then just change it to True. Apply the change and start the game and the radio will be working when switching to headphones.

Low FPS, Stuttering Fix

Performance is often an issue with PC video game and F1 2020 is no exception. According to players, they are facing low FPS, stuttering, and random FPS drops while playing F1 2020. First, make sure you have installed the latest GPU drivers and there is no background process using too much CPU, GPU, or HDD.

If you are playing on a laptop with a dedicated GPU, there is a chance that the game isn’t switching to the dedicated GPU and is causing performance issues. For Nvidia GPU users, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game > select “High-performance Nvidia processor”.

For AMD GPU users, open Radeon Settings > Preferences > Additional Settings > Power > Switchable Graphics Application Settings. Select the game from the list and assign the “High-Performance profile” to the game under Graphics Settings.

If the above scenario doesn’t apply to you then, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Select the game. Make the following changes.

Set Power Management to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
Set Texture filtering – Quality to “High Performance”
Set Vertical Syn to “On”

Start the game and disable in-game v.sync. This should fix stuttering and any FPS issues with F1 2020. In case you are still facing stuttering, follow the steps mentioned above but set Vertical Sync to “Fast”. Apply these changes and start the game. Again, diable in-game v.sync, display mode should be set at fullscreen. This will fix the performance issues with the game for good.
