Mount And Blade 2 Bannerlord PC is facing errors and issues like unable to initialize Steam API, crash at launch, MSVCP140.dll missing, Access Is Denied, and more. Here I have compiled a list of errors that players are experiencing along with their fixes and workarounds.
Mount And Blade 2 Bannerlord Crash, No Audio, And Fixes
Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord is an early access title and by the looks of it, fans were hungry for this game. However, the PC version of Mount & Blade II Bannerlord is facing errors like crash launch, missing MSVCP140.dll, BannerlordLauncher stopped working and more.
The following are the errors and issues with the game along with their fixes and workarounds.
Game Not Launching, Crash At Startup Fix
Players are reporting that Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord doesn’t launch or crashes at launch without any error. Here are a few fixes that will resolve the issue. Firstly, try to restart your PC as some players have noted that restarting the system resolves the issue.
For those facing game crashing at launch, go to the game’s install folder and try to launch it from there. If you get an error similar to “missing MSVCP140.dll or any .dll file”, you just need to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables then download and reinstall them. This will resolve the issue and the game will launch.
If Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord is still crashing at launch then the issue might be your anti-virus software or Windows Defender detecting the game’s exe as a trojan. Either disable the firewall and the anti-virus software or exclude the game’s install folder from your anti-virus. Verify game files and start the game and it will launch without crashing.
Another reason for the game to crash at launch or not launching at all is the use of third-party monitoring software like MSI Afterburner or GeForce Experience. Disable any third-party software you are using and the issue will resolve.
Also, playing the game on outdated Windows 10 build can also cause the game to crash. Update your Windows 10 OS and the game won’t crash at launch. As for Windows 7 users, make you have installed Windows 7 KB2533623 update and if not, download and install it.
GPU Device instance Suspended Fix
According to players, Mount & Blade II Bannerlord crashes at the menu and they get the following error.
d3d_device_context_-> Map at rglGPU_device::lock_texture Failed!
The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.
Given that the game is in early access, this could be fixed by devs in the future. But, this error is related to the GPU. Either your GPU isn’t able to handle the game or it’s overclocked. If your GPU is overcooked or factory overclocked, then revert it back to its default clock speeds and the error will be fixed.
If your GPU isn’t overcooked then clearly your GPU isn’t handing the game very well. I suggest your lock the game’s FPS to reduce the load on the GPU. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down menu and if it isn’t there then add it.
Now go through the options and enable “Max Frate Rate Limit”, then adjust the maximum FPS you want. I suggest you lock the game at 30 FPS but if you want, you can do trial and error to determine how much FPS will be enough. Start the game and it won’t crash at the main menu.
Failure To Start Process, Access Is Denied Fix
Players are reporting that when they launch Mount And Blade 2 Bannerlord they get the following error.
“Failure to start process for Mount and Blade Bannerlord.
Access is denied. (0x5)”
The fix for this error is very simple. All you have to do is give both the game and Steam administrative rights. Right-click on Steam’s exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Run this program as administrator”.
Apply the change, then do the same for Mount And Blade II Bannerlord’s exe and “Launcher.exe”. Start the game and the error is now fixed.
Crash At Loading Screen Fix
This is another issue that Mount And Blade 2 Bannerelord players are experiencing. The fix is quite simple. Go to the Steam’s install folder and navigate to “steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\SandBox\ModuleData\Languages”.
Here, delete the “CN” file. Now start the game without verifying game files and the game will work without crashing while loading.
BannerlordLauncher Stopped Working Fix
According to players, when they launch the game they get “BannerlordLauncher stopped working” error. Here is how to fix it.
The first fix is quite simple, just reinstall DirectX and the game will start working. If the issue persists then exclude the game’s install folder from your anti-virus software or Windows Defender. Then verify game files and launch the game. The game will start working without any error.
If the game still isn’t launching then give both Steam and the game itself administrative rights. Check under “Access Is Denied Fix” to see how to do it.
Stuck At Brightness Calibration Fix
Some players have reported that they can’t get past the brightness calibration screen. Just simply disable your firewall and the issue will be resolved.
Unable to initialize Steam API Fix
This for “Unable to initialize steam API” error is simple. Just give both Steam and the game’s exe the administrative rights and the error will be fixed.
To do that, right-click on Steam’s exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Run this program as administrator”. Apply the change, then do the same for Mount And Blade II Bannerlord’s exe and “Launcher.exe”.
Missing MSVCP140.dll Fix
To fix this error you just need to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables then download and reinstall them. Start the game and the error will be fixes and the game will launch.
No Audio Fix
Players are reporting that when they launch Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord they don’t get any sound at all. This can be easily fixed. Just go to Documents and delete the “Mount and Blade II Bannerlord” folder. Start the game and the audio will start working.
D3D Device Lost Fix
According to players, when they launch the game they get to the loading screen and “D3D Device Lost” error [pops up. There could one of the two reasons behind this error.
The first reason for this error to pop up is the image sharpening. If you have enabled image sharpening from Nvidia Control then disable it.
The second reason for this error to pop up could be your GPU. Either it’s overcooked or the game is too much for the GPU to handle. It’s overclocked then revert it back to its default clock speed.
If not then you might need to lock the game’s fps between 30-40 FPS to reduce the GPU load. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down menu. Enable “Max Frate Rate Limit” and then adjust the maximum FPS you want.
Low FPS, Stuttering Fix
Performance is a common issue with PC video games and given that Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord is in early access, players are reporting stuttering and FPS drops. Here are a few fixes that’ll help with the FPS drops and fix the stuttering.
Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down menu and make the following changes.
Set Vertical Sync to “Fast”
Set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
set “Texture Filtering- Quality” to “High Performance”
Start the game, disable in-game v.sync and display should be set at Fullscreen. This will not only fix stuttering but will potentially give you an FPS boost if you decent enough GPU and CPU.
