NNBA 2K23’s launch hasn’t been a very good one considering the game has a “mostly negative” rating on Steam, at the time of writing. On top of that, NBA 2K23 PC players report the game is crashing in-game or isn’t launching at all the following are the fixes and workarounds.
Crash Fix
Some players report that NBA 2K23 is crashing in-game, and here is how to fix the error. One reason behind the NBA 2K23 in-game crash is your CPU; the game requires an AVX instruction set to work. If your CPU doesn’t support it, the game will keep crashing. All modern CPUs support the AVX instruction set, so you probably use an old CPU if it doesn’t.
Another reason for NBA 2K23 to crash while playing is third-party tools and software that runs in the background like MSI Afterburner, DiScord, software/driver for third-party peripherals, RGB software, and more. Disable any third-party tool you use, and the game will stop crashing.
In-game overlays like Steam in-game overlay or GeForce Experience overlay can sometimes cause in-game crashes. Disable these in-game overlays, if enabled, and NBA 2K23 will stop crashing.
Game Not Starting, Crash At Startup Fix
Some NBA 2K23 players are experiencing the game not launching or crashing at startup. One reason behind this issue is that your CPU doesn’t support AVX and SSE 4.2 instruction sets. The game requires a CPU that supports these instruction sets. Upgrade your CPU or refund the game if your CPU doesn’t have support for AVX and SSE 4.2 instruction sets.
Your anti-virus could be blocking the game executable and causing the game to not launch. Either disable real-time protection or exclude the game folder from the anti-virus; I recommend the latter. After that, verify game files, launch NBA 2K23, and it won’t crash.
Right-click NBA 2K23 in Steam > Manage > browse local files. A new window will open with the game’s files. Locate the executable and launch NBA 2K23 directly through it. You’ll get an error similar to vcruntime140_1.dll or MSVCP140.dll Was Not Found.
Fix this by installing/repairing the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables x64 and x86 versions.
